Overview
Dear Stanford Law School APA Alumnus/a:
Welcome to the Stanford Law School APAAA website! The association was launched in April 2005 as a forum for bringing together APA alumni of the law school. Its primary purposes are:
- To encourage and facilitate greater engagement by APA alumni with the law school and the university;
- To build a network of APA alumni of the law school; and
- To provide a means for APA alumni to give back to the law school -through programs, mentoring of current students and recent graduates, and advice and counsel to the law school administration.
As of 2005, the law school had about 370 APA alumni, roughly the same as the number of African-American and Hispanic/Latino alumni. The highest concentration of APA alumni exists in California (about 180, half of the total number), with a significant majority (about 140) in the San Francisco Bay Area. The next highest areas of geographic concentration are NY/NJ/CT (about 38); DC/VA/MD (about 19), and Hawaii (about 12).
The population of APA graduates of the law school is also weighted toward more recent graduates:
- 1940s/50s: 2
- 1960s: 4
- 1970s: 12
- 1980s: 35
- Early 1990s: 70
- Late 1990s: 105
- Early 2000s: 118
The association has already hosted several events, including a welcome reception for admitted law students as well as a festive launch reception, which featured Hon. Delbert E. Wong '48, Judge, Superior Court of California (ret.), and Hon. Carol Chien-Hua Lam '85, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California.
We welcome your involvement and participation! To become more involved, or if you have any questions, please come to our events or contact me, any member of the Steering Committee, or Tammy Spath, Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Stanford Law School.
