The importance of ethics in governing business decisions and the conduct of corporate management was brought to the fore by the spectacular downfalls of Enron, WorldCom, Global Crossing, and other previously high-flying companies. Ironically, a number of notable lawyers that pursued class action lawsuits against these now-defunct companies have been convicted of crimes that evidence a similar lack of moral compass. What role should ethics play for leaders in both business and law? What is the importance of moral leadership and how does one promote ethical behavior throughout the ranks of the firm? Join Professor Deborah L. Rhode, the Ernest W. McFarland Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, as she addresses these questions and further investigates ethical dilemmas that face business and legal professionals.
Professor Rhode is one of the nation's leading scholars in the fields of legal ethics and gender, law, and public policy. An author of twenty books, she is the most frequently cited scholar in legal ethics. She previously headed Stanford Law School’s Keck Center on Legal Ethics and the Legal Profession, and is the founding director of Stanford University's Center on Ethics.
