If you ever wondered what a City Attorney does, how the City interacts with private law firms, or if you are interested in politics or Los Angeles, then you have to come have lunch with Rocky Delgadillo. Before Antonio Villaraigosa, Rocky was the first (and highest ranking) Latino elected to a city-wide post in Los Angeles in more than 100 years!!! He has made the City Attorney’s Office an integral component to city-wide policy with regards to education; youth crime; child abuse; elder and dependent adult abuse; immigration fraud; and environmental crimes. We have also invited outside law firms to speak on how cities utilize private firms. This is a great opportunity to hear a great speaker talk about his job and how the City Attorneys are addressing the social issues of our generation.
Rocky delgadillo will be introduced by former gubernatorial candidate and current california state controller Steve westly. As Controller, Steve Westly guards the purse strings of the sixth largest economy in the world; but before then, he was VP at eBay before retiring in 2000 after eBay went public. He also taught at the Graduate School of Business and began his career working for the U.S. Department of Energy.
This event is open to the law school community but please RSVP by Friday, October 20 at noon to Lynda Johnston at lyndaj@stanford.edu.
This event is sponsored by Public Interest Law Students Association, Stanford Latino Law Students Association, Stanford Law and Policy Society, and StreetLaw.
