"Separation of Church and State in the Obama Era" with Dean Scotty McLennan

Details

July 21, 2009 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

New York Tolerance Center
226 East 42nd Street
(between 2nd and 3rd Avenues)
New York, NY

Join Dean for Religious Life Scotty McLennan, a riveting speaker, author, lawyer, professor and minister, to discuss a subject made fresh by this pivotal time in our history. Scotty will guide us through a discussion of the proper role of religion in the public arena and examine how President Obama has approached the issue thus far in his term. There will be time for Q&A.

Scotty will also be available to answer questions and sign copies of his new book, Jesus was a Liberal: Reclaiming Christianity for All. The press talks frequently about a culture war between the religious right and the secular left, but often ignores the liberal Christians between these two extremes. In Jesus was a Liberal, McLennan makes a case for Jesus as a champion of rationality, tolerance and freedom from religious authority; in other words, as a liberal..
