Externship, Criminal Law
The Criminal Standard Externship Program (SEP) allows second and third-year students to work for credit in criminal prosecutors' and defenders' offices in the Bay Area for one quarter. Placements can be either full time (40 hours per week) or part-time, but no fewer than 16 hours per week. Because of other Law School requirements, students in their final quarter are limited to part-time externships of no more than 16 hours per week. Students participating in the Criminal SEP must also enroll in the Externship Companion Seminar during the same term. In some cases, where other seminars would be more appropriate companion courses for a student's placement, the student can request to substitute the seminar for the standard course in the application process.
