CLB Journal Club with Brenda Simon on Patent Cover-Up

Details

October 6, 2009 12:45pm - 2:00pm

Room 272
Should companies be allowed to use patents to hide problems? Monsanto has limited testing of its genetically modified seeds and required prior approval of test results. Another patent holder threatened to sue a security researcher who planned to demonstrate weaknesses in its products. Genetic testing companies have limited clinical assessment of their technologies, despite serious questions about their validity and usefulness. Brenda Simon will be discussing her proposal for a quality assessment exception to patent infringement, ensuring the discovery and dissemination of information. RSVP to Libby Greismann (libbyg1@stanford.edu) so she can order the right amount of lunch.
