East Palo Alto resident Rick Walker was imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit. Twelve years later, he was exonerated with the help of Alison Tucker, an SLS alumna, and released. However, while entitled to $100 a day for every day spent falsely imprisoned, Mr. Walker had to fight for his compensation when he became a pawn in the partisan battle in the state legislature over the California budget. We will show a 30 minute documentary about his plight and follow with a panel composed of Rick Walker, State Senator Joe Simitian, and Gwen Essegian, the documentary filmmaker.
