Building a Global Small Claims System for Cross-Border Transactions

September 23, 2010 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Room Offsite
Co-sponsored by the Stanford Program in Law Science and Technologyand the Gould Center for Negotiation & Mediation

About the Event
At the 43rd session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (held in New York, from June 29 – July 9, 2010) state delegations overwhelmingly supported the creation of a Working Group to develop legal standards for ODR (Online Dispute Resolution) mechanisms established for the resolution of cross-border electronic commerce disputes. The first meeting of this new Working Group will take place at the UN in Vienna this December.

In preparation for that meeting, Stanford Law School is hosting a forum for interested individuals in Silicon Valley to review the proposed design for this global resolution system and learn about how it might affect private companies, legal practitioners, and global consumer rights. At the Stanford meeting the experts designing this system will describe the need, the current blueprint, and the road ahead.
