About Mr Christian Turegano: Mr. Turégano received his law degree from UNAM (Mexico’s National University) and a master of laws degree from American University, in Washington, DC. Prior to his appointment as General Director of Standards and Technical Regulations on September 2010, his experience in the Ministry of Economy included being legal advisor for the Undersecretary of Competitiveness, and Adjunct General Director of international Judicial Proceedings for the Mexican investigating authority on dumping and subsidies. Before working for the Mexican Government he worked in leading firms in Mexico City for eleven years. His practice areas included international, arbitration law and project finance with sovereign funds. During his practice in the Ministry of Economy of Mexico Mr. Turegano has been in charge of designing and executing important parts of the regulatory reform mandated by the current administration. Some of the initiatives he has directly worked with in his current position are the design and implementation of the work plan of the High Level Regulatory Cooperation Council between Mexico and the United States which is coordinated by the Underministry of Competitiveness of the Mexican Ministry of Economy and the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs of the US Office of Management and Budget, is the Mexican delegate in the APEC working group of senior officials on good regulatory practices, the issuance of equivalence decrees to recognize the conformity assessment results of the NAFTA region to expedite trade of medical devices and information technology, and several other initiatives for the alignment of Mexican technical regulations with international standards and technical regulations of its trade partners to reduce costs, simplify the system, and eliminate redundancy and inconsistency. As general Director of Standardization and Technical Regulations Mr. Turegano acts as Secretariat of the National Standardization and Regulations Commission of Mexico and represents Mexico before international standards organizations as ISO, IEC and Codex among others.
