Room 85
Join the American Constitution Society for a lunchtime talk with Matt Gonzalez, chief attorney of the San Francisco Public Defender's office. Before achieving his current position, Matt, a SLS graduate, was president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, nearly beat out Gavin Newsom in the San Francisco mayoral election of 2003, and was Ralph Nader's vice-presidential candidate in 2008. Matt will be discussing the state of public defense post-Gideon, which held that criminal defendants are guaranteed legal representation, and whether public defenders' lack of funding and unreasonable caseloads have caused Gideon's promise to remain unfulfilled.
Lunch will be served.
