De-Risking Renewable Energy Investment

Dr. Tobias Schmidt is a Visiting Scholar at Stanford's Precourt Energy Efficiency Center. Dr. Schmidt is a senior researcher at the Chair of Sustainability and Technology and serves as lecturer for ETH Zurich's Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences. He also works as part-time consultant for the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) Environment & Energy Group on de-risking renewable energy investment (DREI).
In his research, which is published in journals like Nature Climate Change, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Energy Policy or Climate Policy, he analyzes the role of public policy and regulation in inducing low carbon technological change in the energy sector. A focus lies on technology and country differences. Currently he mainly analyses innovation and diffusion of power generation and storage technologies. His research covers both developed and developing countries.
