Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA)

Overview

As the world's largest trial bar, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) promotes justice and fairness for injured persons, safeguards victims' rights--particularly the right to trial by jury--and strengthens the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety. With more than 56,000 members worldwide, and a network of U.S. and Canadian affiliates involved in diverse areas of trial advocacy, ATLA provides lawyers with the information and professional assistance needed to serve clients successfully and protect the democratic values inherent in the civil justice system.

The Stanford Law School Chapter of ATLA is committed to promoting ATLA’s goals by educating law students about the practice of civil law. Speakers at the Chapter’s meetings will include Mary Alexander, past President of ATLA and past president of the Consumer Attorneys of California. Chapter members will be matched with an ATLA mentor, provided with information about the field of plaintiffs-side civil litigation, and encouraged to develop advocacy skills by joining the Stanford Mock Trial Team. Through a series of brown-bag lunches, Chapter members will meet with ATLA lawyers practicing in a variety of fields, including employment law, toxic torts, insurance bad faith, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.
