Black Law Students Association (BLSA)

Overview

BLSA is but one chapter in a national organization that includes more than 170 member law schools. BLSA is committed to identifying and articulating the needs and viewpoints of the nation's Black communities, and instilling in the Black attorney and law student a greater commitment to these roots.

At Stanford Law School, BLSA strives to provide cultural comfort and stimulation; forge alliances among BLSA members, faculty of color, other students-of-color organizations, and alumni; provide academic and career support; devise social outlets; and address community and political concerns of law students of African descent.

In recent years, BLSA has coordinated outings to off-campus performances and maintained a strong academic support network. This past year BLSA has also coordinated several events that have brought the broader Black legal community to Stanford. Particularly well-attended events were the Alumni of Color Reception during Alumni Weekend and a judges' panel. BLSA also brought Angela Davis to speak during Black Liberation Month.

BLSA works very closely with the Law School administration on minority student recruiting and retention, financial aid, and minority faculty hiring.
