Collective Redress:
Towards a system of class actions in Europe?

The practice of taking collective actions is clearly developing in Europe. Several European jurisdictions have either implemented legislation that makes it easier for claimants to bring group or class actions, or are considering implementing legislation, especially in the consumer protection context.

This conference will look at recent developments in a number of European jurisdictions and it will present complex case-law. The success and failure of certain national rules will be analysed.

Developments at European level will form an important part of this conference as the European Commission and the European Parliament are actively pursuing plans to facilitate court actions by collective groups.

Organizers: ERA in cooperation with the Fondazione per la Formazione Forense dell'Ordine degli Avvocati di Firenze and Centro di studi sulla giustizia civile «Giovanni Fabbrini»

Location: Florence, Italy
