The Associated Press quoted Professor Jeffrey L. Fisher in a story about a Supreme Court case in which Fisher worked with an unlikely partner, South Carolina felon and jail-house lawyer Michael R. Ray, to represent the petitioner:

"It is a continuously vexing problem, how to define felony," Fisher said.

The court appointed Fisher to represent Burgess after accepting the petition Ray filed.
