Professor Joseph A. Grundfest comments in Financial Week on Stoneridge Investment Partners v. Scientific-Atlanta, "one of the most important securities cases in a generation," currently in front of the Supreme Court:
Joseph Grundfest, a professor at Stanford University and former SEC commissioner, said that while the conduct in the case is against the law, the commission should bring cases, not trial lawyers. “You can’t sue if you’re a private party, end of story,” said Mr. Grundfest, who is working with the vendors in the case. “There are many ways to be involved in primary wrongful conduct, but this is not one of them.”
