The Community Law Clinic's Elizabeth McCrillis is quoted in the San Jose Mercury News in an article about the Page Mill rent control case:
Lawyers representing 136 tenants who contend East Palo Alto's biggest landlord raised their rents illegally sparred repeatedly with attorneys for the company in a hearing Friday before the city's rent stabilization board.
In more than four hours of argument and testimony in a hot, packed room that gradually emptied out, the attorneys for the tenants and Page Mill Properties clashed over rules for submitting evidence and other legal issues.

The state law re-sets rents to market value when a tenant leaves. The city hadn't updated its ordinance to comply with state rules when Page Mill began raising rents.
"Page Mill should not be allowed to unilaterally overrule the voters of East Palo Alto," said Elizabeth McCrillis, a law student representing the tenants on behalf of Stanford Community Law Clinic. "Our petitioners are simply seeking the measure of stability promised by a rent-controlled jurisdiction."
