Professor Miguel A. Mendez is quoted in this article about the possibility of a new trial for convicted terrorist Hamid Hayat.

Miguel Mendez, a Stanford Law School professor, said the defense has "a better shot than normal" at a new trial because its arguments seem to be outside a federal rule that strictly limits evidence regarding deliberations.

"The defense has to establish that this guy prejudged the case," Mendez said. "If allowed to call the magazine reporter, that could present a problem for the government."
