The "Daily Journal" referenced Professor Mark Lemley in an article about the Supreme Court of the United States' decision to curtail patent protection, making it "easier for litigants to bring successful patent challenges, ruling that a specialized federal appeals court used too narrow of an approach in deciding whether a patent is obvious, and therefore invalid":

"Stanford University law professor Mark A. Lemley said the decision could save Microsoft a billion dollars because the company was facing two adverse judgments in cases involving overseas infringement."
