Hollywood Studios Sue To Stop Distribution Of DVD-Copying Software

Professor Mark A. Lemley is quoted in a Los Angeles Times story about a coalition of six major Hollywood studios suing RealNetworks, Inc. over the ability of consumers to copy DVDs onto their computers with the use of new DVD-copying software:
"If Real has a legitimate license to do this under the contract, the circumvention claim goes away, because they're not cracking the encryption system," Lemley said. "They've been given the keys and authorized to do it."
