UC Davis Launches New State Supreme Court Law Clinic
Stanford's Supreme Court Litigation Clinic Co-Director Jeff Fisher is mentioned by Emily Green of the Daily Journal regarding studies he's done which show that law clinics similar to Stanford's better serve litigants by providing counsel who are U.S. Supreme Court "specialists."
The UC Davis School of Law has announced plans this fall to launch a law clinic focused on litigating cases before the state Supreme Court.
While several laws schools operate U.S. Supreme Court clinics, UC Davis will become the first to exclusively focus on California's high court.
That approach is modeled after Stanford Law School's U.S. Supreme Court clinic, which has spawned a number of similar projects at law schools around the country. Jeffrey Fisher, a co-director at the Stanford clinic, has studied law clinics nationwide. His findings show that they serve underserved litigants by providing counsel who are U.S. Supreme Court "specialists," who tend to do better before the court than local practitioners.
