Case of Martin S.*
Rob Quirk ('14) and Nisha Kashyap ('14) represented 16-year-old Martin S.* in a special education matter. Martin and his brother had been rescued from an orphanage in a war-torn, third-world country when they were young children.
When Martin's mother contacted YELP, Martin a student with multiple mental health disorders, had not received mental health or community-based support services for an entire school year. As a result, Martin had made some poor choices and had gotten caught up in the juvenile justice system.
Rob and Nisha represented Martin and his mother at two Individualized Education Program ("IEP") meetings with the school district, and ultimately helped Martin to secure much-needed mental health services from a county agency.
Then, Rob and Nisha represented Martin and his mother in due process negotiations with Martin's school district regarding its past failures. Rob and Nisha successfully settled the case and secured an excellent result for their clients that will benefit Martin for many years to come.
