Externship, Criminal

Description

The Criminal Standard Externship Program (SEP) allows second and third-year students to receive academic credit for working in public defender’s, prosecutor’s or other criminal law-related agencies for for no more than one quarter. The Criminal SEP allows students to: (1) gain experience in a field where a clinical course is not offered, or (2) pursue advanced work in an area of prior clinical practice. Students in the SEP must work at least 16 hours per week and may work no more than 34 hours per week. For students in their final quarter of law school, the externship placement is limited to no more than 16 hours a week.

All students in the Criminal SEP must simultaneously enroll in the two-credit Externship Companion Course. A complete description of the Criminal SEP, and the application procedures therefor, may be found in the Externship Handbook, which is available from the Levin Center for Public Service and Public Interest Law or online.

Interested students should please contact Betsy de la Vega, Director of Pro Bono and Externship Programs, Lecturer in Law.
