This course covers the fundamentals of earth systems and environmental science and develops skills in spreadsheet modeling, optimization and Monte Carlo simulation that are essential for environmental policy analysis and resource management. The course is taught by a diverse team of faculty from the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Law and Business. The course is very challenging but doable for professional students without an undergraduate degree in science or engineering. It prepares future managers, entrepreneurs and policy makers to apply scientific understanding to business operations, strategy, and the design of effective market-based environmental policy. This is the primary core course for the joint professional degree programs that combine the JD or MBA with the MS in Environment and Resources. However, as government and industry are increasingly focused on climate change and other natural resource issues, this course is highly relevant for all law and business students.
