Law and Public Policy Colloquium

Description

This course is designed to give students exposure to a broad array of scholarship touching upon the intersection of law and matters of public policy. Leading scholars from around the country in law and other fields (political science, philosophy, economics, humanities, and sociology) will present papers on current public policy issues and debates. Particular attention will be devoted to current issues, such as banking regulation, climate change, and education reform. Faculty, students, and auditors will question and critique authors in an academic workshop format.

Students will receive each paper to be presented approximately one to two weeks in advance, and will be expected to write short (3-4 pages) commentaries on each of the guest speakers, or select one paper or topic upon which they will write a longer (20-25 pages), more detailed critique, or an original research paper. The grade for the course will be a reflection of the quality of the written projects, as well as class participation.
