Medical-Legal Issues in Children’s Health

Description

This seminar is an interdisciplinary exploration of the medical and legal issues that affect the health of children, with a focus on the effects of poverty on children’s health. It is intended to give law and medical students the opportunity to learn about how both disciplines can work together to improve health outcomes for low-income children, and to encourage collaboration between future attorneys and physicians. The seminar is structured around a series of lectures and discussions with a mandatory service learning component. Guest lecturers from the medical and legal fields will be selected for their expertise on each topic. Topics include asthma, family violence, and immigration.

Special instructions: The course is open to medical and law students (4 Law, 4 Med) who will work collaboratively on the legal issues presented by pediatric patient families at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and the Ravenswood Family Health Center in East Palo Alto.
