Domain Name Disputes Under the UDRP: The Korea Database
May 7, 2013 12:45pm - 2:00pm
Professor Ilhyung Lee will give a presentation examining the decisions by Korean panelists of disputes over domain names, many of which involve Korean parties. These disputes are resolved under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in 1999. The discussion will offer an analysis of a database of nearly all cases administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in which a Korean panelist or panelists decided the case. There are some decisions of interest, which invite further discussion of international standards, cultural norms and construction, and the Korean presence in the age of Internet.
This talk primarily caters to students with an interest in trademark, internet law, law and society in East Asia, or alternative dispute resolution.
Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP here.
