Stanford Plaintiffs' Law Association alums and students gathered in sunny San Diego to honor Professor Nora Freeman Engstrom, Professor David Freeman Engstrom, alum Garrett Wen and their co-authors on winning the NCJI Civil Justice Scholarship Award. The paper, "Shedding Light on Secret ...Settlements: An Empirical Study of California's STAND Act," demonstrates that banning NDAs in sexual harassment and sexual assault cases did not reduce case filings or prolong their resolution, bucking conventional wisdom that cases won't settle without secrecy.
The reception was part of the American Association of Justice's Winter Convention, which Stanford Law sponsors students to attend. Beyond celebrating with their professors and mentors, students met inspiring attorneys from across the country, learned tips and tricks for trial advocacy and soaked up the sun.
On March 5, the Haas Center for Public Service and the Levin Center for Public Service & Public Interest Law invite you to a panel at Stanford Law School featuring the 2026 Distinguished Visitors: Thomas Lee, Kris Perry, Libby Schaaf, and Regi Young.
These local leaders shape ...policy-driven systems through government, public agencies, or large-scale nonprofit organizations. Their work addresses economic barriers such as housing and food insecurity, education inequity, and public infrastructure. These issues directly affect communities locally and beyond.
The panel will be followed by a Q&A and reception. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all welcome to attend.

Irene Liu has been named the executive director of the Stanford Law School AI Initiative, co-chaired by Nathaniel Persily, the James B. McClatchy Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, and Professor of Law Julian Nyarko.
“Stanford Law stands at the intersection of technological ...innovation and legal scholarship, making it the natural epicenter for defining the future of AI,” Liu said. “... I look forward to amplifying the groundbreaking research already in progress, expanding our role as a hub for public and private sector engagement, and equipping our students to lead in a world shaped by AI."
The AI Initiative advances interdisciplinary research, teaching, and engagement with industry leaders and policymakers. It brings together faculty, students, centers, labs, and external collaborators to inform how AI is developed, governed, and used responsibly in law and public life.
