Apple's Patent Settlement With HTC Signals Shift In Company's Legal Strategy
Professor Mark Lemley spoke with the Daily Journal's Rachel Swan regarding the Apple Inc/HTC Corp. settlement and why he believes it's a "single step on the long road toward patent peace."
In a significant breakthrough for the smartphone wars, Apple Inc. and HTC Corp. announced a settlement that would resolve a patent dispute between the two companies.
Although a joint statement filed Saturday in the U.S. District Court of Delaware revealed little about the terms of the 10-year agreement that covers current and future patents of both companies, legal observers perceived it as a strategic move for Apple.
In an email, Stanford Law School professor Mark. A. Lemley called the settlement a hopeful development, albeit a single step "on the long road toward patent peace."
