Despite Protests, Offshore Oil Drilling Remains Unlikely For Golden State
Senior Lecturer in Law Margaret "Meg" Caldwell is quoted in an article about a public hearing held by the Obama administration about whether to allow offshore oil drilling along the California coast:
Four days before leaving office, the Bush administration issued a new plan to open huge sections of California, Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico, Florida and the Atlantic Coast to new drilling between 2010 and 2015.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, and California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein oppose any new drilling off California.
"I think if our governor and the senators continue to hold the line in opposing offshore oil and gas development, the president and interior secretary will respect that," said Meg Caldwell, a Stanford University law professor and former chairwoman of the coastal commission.
