Lawmakers Passes Quick Fix For State Sentencing Scheme

"Daily Journal" quotes Stanford Criminal Justice Center Director and Professor Robert Weisberg the California State Senate passing urgent legislation to give judges broader discretion over sentencing after the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed the state's sentencing laws as unconstitutional a couple weeks ago.

Robert Weisberg, Stanford University law professor and director of the Stanford Criminal Justice Center, said federal judges followed the middle term when federal sentencing guidelines were declared unconstitutional.
