SLSCONNECT IS AN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SERVICE PRODUCED BY STANFORD LAW SCHOOL. BY USING SLSCONNECT YOU AGREE TO ALL TERMS OF THIS USER AGREEMENT. READ THIS AGREEMENT BEFORE USING SLSCONNECT. YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE FOLLOWING TERMS.
Upon notice published through the Service, Stanford Law School ("SLS") may modify this Agreement at any time. Notice of any such change or addition will be made within approved interfaces to SLSConnect and/or by e-mail. By using SLSConnect after any change or addition is announced, you agree to be bound by all such changes or additions.
You agree to always use SLS services in a manner consistent with all applicable laws and regulations and in accordance with the terms and conditions set out in the policies and guidelines outlined below. Your SLSConnect user account, and your obligation to this agreement, will continue until terminated by Stanford Law School or until you notify Stanford Law School by e-mail. Stanford Law School may discontinue SLSConnect or its availability to you at any time without notice.
Please note that you will be referred to as "User" from time to time in this Agreement.
You are responsible for any use of content by someone using your Internet address and/or Internet IP address to accesss SLSConnect. This agreement is personal to you; you may not assign it to anyone. If any provision of this agreement is invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. If you become aware of any unauthorized use of your SLSConnect user account, you agree to notify Stanford Law School by telephone at 650 723.2730 and confirm the notice in writing to:

Rules for Online Conduct for Mailing Lists, and Discussion Forums, and Extended Services
SLS reserves the right to delete, move or edit any content that it may determine, in its sole discretion, violates or may violate this Agreement or is otherwise unacceptable.
Messages and postings made within SLSConnect, its discussion forums and extended services are for the groups themselves and should not be forwarded or reposted without the explicit permission of the poster.
Users who violate the Terms of Service may be terminated from SLSConnect.
Membership & Access
Users of SLSConnect who sign up for an account a/cknowledge that they are ALUMNI OR STUDENTS OF STANFORD LAW SCHOOL . "STUDENT" is defined as a person who is fully-matriculating at Stanford Law School. "ALUMNI" is defined as a person who has attended Stanford Law School as a fully-matriculated student for at least 3 consecutive quarters.
Users agree not to provide access to or use of SLSConnect content, in any format, to anyone who is not an alum or student of Stanford Law School.
Non-transferability of Membership
User accounts may not be shared, transferred, or sold to other parties, nor are they to be commissioned for use or access by any person or party except the User. Stanford Law School grants to User a personal, non-exclusive, non-assignable and non-transferable license to use and display the SLSConnect software ("Software") on any machine(s) of which User is the primary User. Unauthorized copying of the Software or duplication of the software in any manner, including software that has been modified, merged or included with the Software, or the written materials associated therewith is expressly forbidden. User acknowledges that User may not sublicense, transfer, sell or assign this license or the Software. Any attempt to sublicense, transfer, sell or assign the license is void. User also acknowledges all consequences of using the services provided herein. If any negative consequences arise from the use or access vis-a-vis this service, it is the User's responsibility to apply the initial remedy. Should Stanford Law School need to remedy a negative situation created by a User's use of the license provided, that remedy may include revocation of privileges and Stanford Law School reserves the right to seek any legal redress from the User.
Software Libraries and Copyrighted Materials
Only public domain software or graphics files or files where the owner has given express permission for online distribution (such as through a Creative Commons License) may be posted to bulletin boards on the Service. Additionally, for the posting of any material that includes identifiable individuals, the posting User bears the responsibility of obtaining permission to post the person's image or photo. The posting of any copyrighted content without permission isprohibited. The following types of files are examples of prohibitedpostings:
Unauthorized copies of copyrighted photographs, drawings, graphics, text or other writings, computer programs or other software, sound or video recordings (such as music or movies) or designs/; User acknowledges that only the owner or someone authorized by the owner to post the material may do so. The downloading of copyrighted material is allowed by Users only for Users' own use. Users may not copy, reproduce, retransmit, distribute, publish, commercially exploit or otherwise transfer any copyrighted material. The burden of determining that any information, software or any other content on the Service is not protected by copyright rests with the User. User acknowledges that Stanford Law School and/or third-party content providers remain the owners of the posted materials, and that User does not acquire any of those ownership rights by downloading copyrighted materials.
Information Usage Restrictions
All news and information provided through SLSConnect is the property of Stanford Law School or its licensors and is protected by applicable copyright law. Information received through SLSConnect may be stored in computer memory, manipulated, analyzed, reformatted, printed and displayed for your personal, noncommercial use only. You agree not to reproduce, re-transmit, disseminate, sell, distribute, publish, broadcast or circulate the information received through SLSConnect to anyone including, but not limited to, others in the same company or organization, without express prior written consent of Stanford Law School. Posting of SLSConnect content to public newsgroups, non-sanctioned listserves, and/or other bulletin boards and/or electronic communications services is strictly prohibited without the express prior written consent of Stanford Law School.
Limitations On Use
You acknowledge that SLSConnect may include the views, opinions and recommendations of individuals or organizations whose thoughts are deemed of interest, and that Stanford Law School does not itself endorse these views, give advice, or advocate the purchase or sale of any product or service.
Online Communication Services
Communication services provided through Online Services , such as the Alumni Directory, alumni-specific web pages, mailing lists, bulletin boards, newsgroups, and other services in the future, is a part of the Service designed for private communication between alumni users. Stanford Law School reserves the right to take action against any User who is defaming, harassing or otherwise offending another User through e-mail, if it comes to SLS's attention that this type of abuse is occurring, as is more fully set forth in the Rules for Online Conduct.
Limitation of Liability and Warranty
USER AGREES THAT USE OF THE SERVICE IS ENTIRELY AT USER'S OWN RISK. SLS'S SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTY FOR INFORMATION, SERVICES, UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS, OR PRODUCTS PROVIDED THROUGH OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SERVICE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE SLS SOFTWARE LICENSED TO THE USER AND THE RESULTS OBTAINED THROUGH THE SERVICE. SPECIFICALLY, SLS DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION:
- ANY WARRANTIES CONCERNING THE AVAILABILITY, ACCURACY OR CONTENT OF INFORMATION, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES; AND
- ANY WARRANTIES OF TITLE OR WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THIS DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY APPLIES TO ANY DAMAGES OR INJURY CAUSED BY ANY FAILURE OF PERFORMANCE, ERROR, OMISSION, INTERRUPTION, DELETION, DEFECT, DELAY IN OPERATION OR TRANSMISSION, COMPUTER VIRUS, COMMUNICATION LINE FAILURE, THEFT OR DESTRUCTION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO, ALTERATION OF, OR USE OF RECORD, WHETHER FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORTIOUS BEHAVIOR, NEGLIGENCE, OR UNDER ANY OTHER CAUSE OF ACTION. USER SPECIFICALLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT SLS IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE DEFAMATORY, OFFENSIVE OR ILLEGAL CONDUCT OF OTHER USERS OR THIRD-PARTIES AND THAT THE RISK OF INJURY FROM THE FOREGOING RESTS ENTIRELY WITH USER. NEITHER SLS NOR ANY OF ITS AGENTS, AFFILIATES OR CONTENT PROVIDERS SHALL BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF USE OF THE SERVICE OR INABILITY TO GAIN ACCESS TO OR USE THE SERVICE OR OUT OF ANY BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY. USER HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO ALL CONTENT ON THE SERVICE.
IN NO EVENT WILL STANFORD LAW SCHOOL, ITS AFFILIATES, AGENTS OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE FOR ANY DECISION MADE OR ACTION TAKEN BY YOU IN RELIANCE UPON SUCH INFORMATION OR SERVICES OR FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR SIMILAR DAMAGES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. YOU AGREE THAT THE LIABILITY OF STANFORD LAW SCHOOL, ITS AFFILIATES, AGENTS AND LICENSORS, IF ANY, ARISING OUT OF ANY KIND OF LEGAL CLAIM (WHETHERIN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE) IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH SLSCONNECT SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO STANFORD LAW SCHOOL FOR THE USE OF SLSCONNECT.
The Stanford Law School and SLSConnect logo, and all computer-generated graphics on this Service are trademarks of Stanford Law School. All other trademarks appearing on the Service are trademarks of their respective owners.
Stanford Law School may give notice to Users by means of a general notice on the Service, electronic mail to User's e-mail address on record in SLS's account information, or by written communication sent by first class mail to a User's address on record in SLS's account information. You may give notice to Stanford Law School (such notice shall be deemed given when received by Stanford Law School at any time by any of the following: electronic mail; letter faxed to Stanford Law School at the following fax number: 650 725.9786; or letter delivered by first-class postage, prepaid mail or courier to Stanford Law School at the following address:

User agrees to hold Stanford the Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University harmless from any claims and expenses, including reasonable attorney's fees and court costs, related to User's violation of this Agreement, including the Rules of Conduct or any information, software or other content placed on the Service by User.
Stanford Law School is committed to preserving the privacy of alumni and students. SLSConnect is password-protected and secure, which enable alumni and students to connect with each other.
IN USING SLSCONNECT, YOU CONSENT TO STANFORD LAW SCHOOL USING YOUR PICTURE (IF POSTED) AND A FEW SENTENCES FROM ANY OF YOUR RECENT POSTS TO THE NETWORK IN DISTRIBUTIONS TO SLS ALUMNI THROUGH EMAIL OR OTHER MEDIA, AS PART OF AN EFFORT TO INCREASE USE OF THE SLSCONNECT WEBSITE (E.G., "LOOK WHAT'S GOING ON INSIDE SLSCONNECT RIGHT NOW").
The Alumni Directory, which populates the profile fields in SLSConnect, offers the ability for all alumni and students to suppress publication of their data on a field-by-field basis except for first name, last name, Stanford courses, degrees and degree years.
Termination of Service
User may terminate this Agreement and User's right to use the Service. Stanford Law School may terminate your account or access rights to this Service at any time, without notice, for any reason.
Choice of Law
This Agreement shall be construed and controlled by the laws of the State of California. Further, any dispute arising from the terms of this agreement or a breach of this Agreement will be governed by the laws of the State of California. User agrees to personal jurisdiction by the state and federal courts sitting in the State of California.
